administration process

    Accepting and transmitting personal applications for changing the name on a birth certificate. Accepting and registering married names.

Required documents

    Documents required for applying for changing the name on your birth certificate (surname and/or first name):
  • document proving identity and citizenship: identity card, passport, address card
  • birth certificate
  • the personal consent of those involved in the name change


    Married names:
  • document proving identity and citizenship: identity card, passport, address card
  • extract from the register of marriages

Payment information

  • Changing the name on your birth certificate: a duty stamp worth HUF 10,000 for the first time and HUF 50,000 for repeated name changes.
  • Marriage name: a duty stamp worth HUF 3,000.

    • Fee for issuing a birth certificate: duty-free.
