Open Concept Tendering Announcement

for the Conceptual Design of the Anna-rét Mass Location and Memorial Place in Budapest Capital Hegyvidék 12th District

Purpose of the Concept Tendering
In 2020, the 52nd edition of the International Eucharistic Congress will be held in Budapest. It is an event that has grand international recognition. Budapest Capital Hegyvidék 12th District can connect to the event series with the venue at Normafa, the memorial for the Queen of the World Amendment Chapel.
The aim is to create a small outdoor mass location, altar as an architectural, landscape architec-tural and artistic (statue) feature, that will not only serve as a venue for the congress event but would also be suitable as a start / end rest area where the West-East (Máriacell-Csíksomlyó) and the North-South (Csesztohova-Mejdugorje) pligrims’ ways meet at Anna-rét.
The aim of the tendering is to gather ideas and proposals that can be the basis for the future specific conceptual design program of the periodically used outdoor mass location and memo-rial place to be constructed in memory of the vision.

Subject of the Concept Tendering
Preparation of the Conceptual Design of the Anna-rét Mass Location and Memorial Place in Budapest Capital Hegyvidék 12th District. The Announcers expect architectural, landscape architectural and artistic (statue) proposals related to the existing chapel at Anna-rét, which would serve for the Queen of the World Amendment Chapel in it. Accordingly, it is to be constructed a small, outdoor mass location and memorial place that will be used periodically, in the form of an edifice, a smaller land-scape feature or an artistic memorial.
The Proposer should indicate, based on the examination of several aspects (impact study and the retention of the safe use of winter sports grounds), in the areas recommended in the an-nouncement (see: Annex 1) or even outside them (but within the area of Anna-rét), the site that the Proposer considers to be most favourable one.
The function to be planned can be located in the area encircled by the group of six trees in Anna-rét about 60-70 metres north from the existing chapel or in the immediate surroundings of this area. An important factor for the selection of the site is to avoid interference with win-ter sports on the mountain side.
The use of building stones previously collected for the construction of the chapel is possible, but not an expectation. The building stones (26 pieces) are located in the vicinity of the exist-ing chapel within the circle of the six conker trees.
An important factor for the conceptual design of the mass location and memorial place is to search for a simple and honest solution for expressing sacrality. The solution should be char-acterized by faith-inspired acceptance, openness and tempered reservedness and humbleness.
The conceptual design and the implementation of the plan should be centred around a clean composition which expresses a relationship of respect with its environment leaving it undis-turbed. A design harmonizing with the landscape and the usage of near-natural materials are basic requirements considering the location.
