Actual news from Hegyvidék

Road renovations have begun. The Hegyvidék Municipality will be renovating the entire width of the lower section of Kiss János altábornagy Street between Alkotás Street and Győri Road. The works, which began in mid-January, are expected to last until the end of March. Contractors are trying to cause as little disruption as possible, but half-track road closures are still inevitable, and car traffic will be prohibited on the entire section from time to time.

Sledding and cross-country skiing at Normafa. If the weather is cold, thanks to snow cannons, which work even when it is not possible to slide elsewhere under natural conditions due to lack of snow, the sledding and cross-country skiing tracks are opened in Anna meadow, near Normafa. Moreover, these tracks are illuminated until 10 p.m. Sledding is free of charge, the cross-country skiing track can be used at last year's prices. For children and residents of District XII it costs HUF 1,000 per day, adults from elsewhere it is HUF 2,000. Tickets can be purchased at Vasas Ski House, where dressing facilities are also provided for wristband buyers.

Free sports programs. From now on, eleven sports and forms of exercise – swimming, running, aerobics, sparing gymnastics, zumba, functional training, yoga, hiking, taekwondo, table tennis and badminton – are offered by the Active Hegyvidék program, which can be used at a variety of times from Monday to Saturday. Most classes are provided by the Hegyvidék Sports Centre and Swimming Pool (29 Városmajor St.), but there are also classes at MOM Sport (14–16 Csörsz St.), the University of Physical Education (42–48 Alkotás St.) and district XII schools. The Gesztenyés-kert Running Club currently holds its trainings on the world-class track of the Dr. Jenő Koltai Sports Center (2–10 Csörsz St.). Swimming is a "returning" sport: those presenting the XII. district residence card can use the Városmajor Street swimming pool free of charge on Saturdays from 13.00 to 17.00. Furthermore, unlike before, instead of one-hour play, table tennis can be used for one and a half hours at a time, on even more tables, on Saturdays from 9.00 am to 10.30 am at the Városmajor Sports Centre. At the same place, immediately after table tennis, from 11.00 to 12.30 you can also take part in badminton classes, which is a new sport among the programs. Photos from around the world. In the Hegyvidék Cultural Salon (2 Törpe St.) we can see the exhibition of two globetrotting photographers in these weeks. From 2 to 29 February, the exhibition entitled Photos from the World can be visited, where Tamás Radics, geologist, tour guide, high mountain guide and photographer gives a taste of his diverse travel experiences. Between 7 and 28 February, photographer Judit Kovács will bring the faces of India, the world's most populous country, closer to us, who tries to help us understand the contradictory phenomena of our time by searching for common human traits.

Movies in English. Cinema MOM (53 Alkotás St.) screens in its original language, among others, the black-humored comedy movie Poor Things starring Mark Ruffalo and Emma Stone, which won the main prize at the Venice International Film Festival. A Hungarian historical film, Semmelweis, will be screened with English subtitles: the biographical drama deals with the life of Ignác Semmelweis, a doctor who played a pioneering role in overcoming puerperal fever, "the saviour of mothers". On January 31 and February 4, the Pet Shop Boys will perform a concert in Copenhagen, and on February 7, Kenneth MacMillan's Manon will be screened by The Royal Ballet in London.
