Actual news from Hegyvidék

Advent in the Hegyvidék. The Christmas market runs until 23 December in the Town Hall Square (Városháza tér), where, in addition to a variety of wares and delicacies that can be eaten locally, colorful programs await visitors. On the open-air stage on the 16th from 6:00 p.m., a trio of Armenian accordionists David Yengibarian will perform. On the 17th, from 18.00, the Hungarian representative of traditional gipsy jazz, Canarro, and from 19.00, the front section of the ethno-beat band Aurevoir, Márton Agócs and Mihály Fejér will give a concert. On the 23rd at 18.00, the percussion ensemble Campanelli will perform, followed by a concert by the duo Marge Akusztik from 19.00. For those arriving with children, Danny Bain and Béla Ágoston on the 17th at 10.30 am, and on the 18th at 10.30 am the Lunar Song Day Orchestra's christmas concerts are offered. On the 21st, from 15.00, the students of Virányos Primary School will present the already traditional Csengettyű concert at the Advent fair. As part of the sensitization sessions of NGOs, we can bake gingerbread on the 19th from 5:00 p.m. in the Hegyvidék Ízlelő Étterem (Hegyvidék Tasting Restaurant) together with the disabled employees working there.

Shoebox-sized gifts. This year, too, the Baptist Charity announced the Shoebox Sale. As part of this, we can offer Christmas gifts to children in need, which the organizers are waiting for until December 19 at nearly four hundred collection points in the country. In the Hegyvidék you can drop off your luggage at the University of Physical Education (42-48 Alkotás St.), the Valentina shoe store (6/a Magyar jakobinusok square) and the BKK Customer Center on Széll Kálmán square. The shoebox can hold anything that a child under 18 can be happy about – we just have to decide how many boys or girls around the age of we want our gifts for.

Concerts at MOMkult. The MOM Cultural Center (18 Csörsz St.) closes this year with an almost continuous concert stream. The charismatic singer Дeva (Dorina Takács), whose album Star was released earlier this year on the label of Balázs Zságer, will give a concert on December 15 at 7.30 pm in cooperation with the art collective Hari Drama. The aforementioned Balázs Zságer will be the guest of MOMkult on the 16th from 18.30 with his meditative, psychedelic electronic music. Kodachrome, i.e. Bence Jobbágy and Adrián Méhes, will perform hits by Simon and Garfunkel on the 17th at 7:00 p.m., and the Selmeczi String Quartet will perform works by Bartók, Lajtha and Vajda on the 18th at 7:30 p.m. On the 21st, from 7:00 p.m., we will be able to listen to the Christmas concert of the Lumen Christi Gospel Choir, while on the 28th we will meet saxophonist and pan-hip player St. Martin on the occasion of his jubilee concert covering twenty-five years of his career. András Lovasi will choose from hundreds of songs from the past thirty-five years at his composer's evening starting at 7:00 p.m. on the 29th, while on the 30th, starting at 17:00 and 20:00, the Hot Jazz Band will hold its now traditional Pre-New Year’s Eve concert.

Movies in English. At CinemaMOM (53 Alkotás St.) we can also watch the sequel to the 2009 avatar, the film Avatar: The Way of Water, in English – with Hungarian subtitles – in the coming days. On December 26 at 8.30 pm, fans of the cult action movie will be able to catch a digitally remastered version of 1988's Die Hard. On December 20 at 8.30 pm, the legendary concert that took place in 2002 at the Royal Albert Hall in London in memory of George Harrison, featuring world-famous stars, will come to life on the canvas.
