Open-air exhibitions and concerts. MOM Cultural Center opens a community exhibition space called GLASS.HOUSE on the Sirály Promenade. In a kiosk, artists and designers are given the opportunity to present their work for two-week periods. The exhibition is accompanied by open-air concerts, book launches, public and partner meetings. The project includes performances by Žagar, a key figure in Hungarian and international electronic music life, Ian O'Sullivan, an Irish singer-songwriter, who lives in Hungary, and the Bored Groupies, an artistic formation of Annamari Kaptay and Míra Finta. From 16 June the first exhibitor of the GLASS.HOUSE will be the artist Márton Romvári, who gained international fame with his colorful, dynamic and abstract paintings.
Fabulous adventures on the main street of Hegyvidék. Family programs continue in The Town Hall Square, in the area in front of the Hegyvidék Cultural Salon. On June 18, skill and logic games, vegetable sculptures and custom-designed giant music instruments can be tried by anyone of those interested. On June 25, Danny and Béla's fairytale concert, the Lurkóperencia fairytale journey and the activities of the Chirping Craft Workshop promise a pleasant pastime for families, who can commemorate this colorful day with the help of a photomask of old-fashioned black and white pictures.
The library is also waiting in the summer. The Budapest Szabó Ervin Library awaits readers in several districts, including Hegyvidék, all summer long. The library at 10 Ugocsa Street also offers a wide selection of English-language books and films, open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 13 to 19 hours, tuesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The chairlift is running again. The one-month overhaul of the Chairlift is over, now it is offering unparalleled panorama runs again between Zugliget and János Hill. The lift operates every day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., except on mondays of even weeks, when the operator takes a maintenance break.
Movies in English. The latest Jurassic World film, Dominion, can also be viewed in English (With Hungarian subtitles) in CinemaMOM (53 Alkotás St.) On June 22, at 7 p.m., an uncut version of George Michael's documentary Freedom will be screened.
Space music on the terrace of the salon. On June 23, from 7 p.m., the world of tango will be brought to The Town Hall Square, on the terrace of the Hegyvidék Cultural Salon by the accordionist Mihály Demeniv and pianist Áron Tálas. In July, as part of the Musical Budapest program series, new free concerts and interactive musical instrument presentations are waiting for the audience week after week.
Video game inspired chamber music. New World: Intimate Music from Final Fantasy arrives at MOMkult on June 25 at 8 p.m. Two renowned video game composers, Nobuo Uematsu and Arnie Roth, participated in the composition of the chamber orchestra performance, and the ensemble is conducted by Eric Rothi.
Exhibition of Munkácsy Prize winners. From 16 June, for a month, the artists who won this year's Mihály Munkácsy Prize will present their works in the Hegyvidék Gallery (10 Királyhágó Sqr.). The exhibition features works by painter Éva Erdő Kvasznay, painter András Ernszt, artist Endre Koronczi, sculptor Péter Matl, artist Beáta Széchy, colorist Csaba Szegedi and sculptor Gábor Veres.
Networking installation. Textile artist Zsuzsanna G. Szabó, together with the students of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, is creating a networking installation covering the entire interior of the Horse Railway Building (64 Zugligeti Rd.) entitled Women’s work. The results of the performance, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on June 19, will be shown from June 20-22.
